“Both purported removal of Shirani and purported appointment of Mohan, absolute nullity” :BASL


The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has stated that it has been the unwavering position of BASL that the purported removal of Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake from the Office of Chief Justice was unconstitutional, null and void and of no force or effect in Law and that, therefore, the purported appointment of Mohan Peiris was unconstitutional, null and void and of no force or effect in Law, since there was no vacancy in the Office of Chief Justice.

Sripavan takes oaths as CJ


Justice K.Sripavan today took oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena as the 44 th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. He had been acting Chief Justice earlier. He had also been Judge of the Court of Appeal and Deputy Solicitor General.

“Repeal draconian PTA” : NPC Chairman


Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council C.V.K. Sivagnanam has appealed to President Maithripala Sirisena to repeal the draconian law, Prevention of Terrorism Act as it violates rights of citizens for rule of law. 

Shirani resigns


Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayaka, who resumed duties as Chief Justice yesterday following a letter dispatched to her by President Maithripala Sirisena, resigned from her office today.
