Court allows Namal’s request to travel overseas


Colombo Magistrate J. Trotsky has allowed UPFA Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa to travel overseas up to the end of this year. Court made the order on a motion filed by him seeking permission to travel to Vietnam. He is prosecuted for abuse of public property following Financial Crimes Investigation Division’s complaint against Rajapaksa.

Basil indicted; Court grants bail ,


Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa was served with indictments by Colombo High Court in connection with an indictment filed against him for allegedly misappropriating Rs.29.4 million of funds belonging to Divi Neguma Department.

Geetha’s nomination bad in law: DSG


Deputy Solicitor General Janak de Silva has submitted to the Court of Appeal that UPFA Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe’s nomination to contest the last Parliamentary election was bad in law since she had been a dual citizen of Sri Lanka and Switzerland at the time she handed in nominations to contest the last Parliamentary election. She had not clarified officially whether she had given up Swiss citizenship.

SLMC challenges CA order in SC


The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has appealed to the Supreme Court against the the Court of Appeal order of Jan. 31, 2017, making it mandatory for the SLMC to provisionally register, under Section 29/2 of the Medical Ordinance, the medical graduates of South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), be set aside and ordering the Public Service Commission to permit SAITM medical graduate to register as public officers.
